Rosa froze, tuning out Bianca's prattle about how she'd met Musharna. The skorupi that had just skittered past was definitely red, not purple. She forced herself to breathe and stay calm as she fumbled for her pokémon. A real shiny skorupi! And she'd thought this trek through Reverse Mountain would be dull...
"Bianca," Rosa whispered, ready to release Fraxure for a false swipe. "There's a skorupi right behind that rock, and it's—"
"Right! We're on it!" Bianca grinned, pointed at the rock, and Musharna let loose a psychic that flung the red skorupi across the cave and out of sight.
"I can't believe the battery is dead already!" Luis thumped his new car's hood. "I just bought it last week!"
Evan clapped him on the shoulder. "Relax, Luis. I told you, Electivire'll jump it for you!"
"Has he ever jumped a car before?"
Evan shrugged. "No, but he gives jolts to my other electric pokémon all the time! I dunno much about fancy cars, but a big beast like this probably needs 20,000 volts, right?"
Evan's electivire touched his tail-tips to the battery. The car exploded.
"Well, I know 20,000 dollars is what you owe me to replace my car..."
"Good work, Yanmega! You're a quick study!" Nora put the roost TM back into her case and went searching for another. "Let's see what other moves you can learn... ooh!"
She held up a silver-blue disk for Yanmega to inspect. "Fly! We'll be able to go anywhere we like with this!"
She slid the disc into her pokédex, pointed it at Yanmega, and...
BEEP. The pokédex flashed a bright red error message.
"What? Incompatible? But..."
She flipped to yanmega's pokédex entry. This six-legged Pokémon is easily capable of transporting an adult in flight...
Nora threw the HM away in disgust.
Probopass was lost without his south mini-nose. Where could it be? Was it even with him when he and Max left the house that evening? How was he supposed to battle if it was missing? He sent out another pulse of magnetism, but deep down he knew the nose wouldn't respond.
Max's brother hurried into the dark kitchen to grab some ice cream before the commercials ended. Max and her Probopass weren't even home to tell him off!
The light from the freezer revealed a pair of teary eyes and a sniffling stone nose, stuck fast to the refrigerator door.
Scizor admired the statue closest to him. Even sculpted from ice, the seviper looked so lifelike—head low, saber fangs bared, bladed tail arched high above it as though about to strike. He almost swore he could see a glint of angry red life beneath the blue eyes.
"The secret is veracity," said Froslass. "I strive to capture the subject as they are acting, feeling, fearing." She whirled on him, icy energy dancing between her hands.
Scizor jumped and raised his pincers defensively, open wide and ready to snap.
"Perfect. Hold that pose." Froslass smiled and let the blizzard fly.
It drifted through the new department store and marveled at each toy the aisles had to offer. Televisions, sound systems, vacuums that could inhale a bidoof... something here must hide a move more entertaining than those it got from ovens or silly fans.
Nothing held its interest until it floated into a quiet back room. It had seen fixtures like the ones behind each door before, but only with antiquated manual mechanisms. These were sleek and modern; these had LEDs and motion sensors. It settled into the circuitry with a smile and prepared to test its new gunk shot attack.
The trainer sat alone in the Hall of Origin, staring at the poké ball without quite seeing it.
Arceus. An extremely powerful pokémon, at the very least. The creator of the universe and all things in it if the old legends were to be believed. Arceus, captured, held tight in just one hand.
Now... what? They'd trekked through all the country's regions, finished the pokédex, tucked a god into their pocket. What was left?
Well. Arceus created a world, not just one country. Unova, Kalos, Alola, and beyond...
They could always take Arceus along and see the rest of it.
