OMG we're about to start finding wild tiny magical monster friends! :D

...aaaand I don't have any poké balls, do I? D:

Here we are on Route 1, where a young girl taunts us by saying there are lots of adorable pokémon around. I just said I don't have any poké balls, dammit! >|

Oh god dammit, speak of the devil. Here's one now. (Give that a listen; it's all pretty nice, although I especially like the guitar parts that lead into it.)

An avinch, the early bird. It's bright and cute and happy and yellow and RRRGH I want poké balls. Unfortunately poké balls will not magically appear in my bag no matter how much I RRRGH, so I guess this poor creature is nothing but so much cat food for Aenjara. I'll be back for you, Avinch. Well. Back for an avinch. This one is, y'know, cat food.

Huh. I checked the blank spot in the grass on the off chance there'd be a hidden item there, but I didn't actually expect to find one this early. Neat. Don't waste this one, Aenjara.

Aenjara beat up another avinch and hit level 7, upon which she learned ember. Cool. Not really sure what to make of this, though:

What in blue blazes is a "bambouse"? That's not one of the things they revealed pre-demo. I'd guess it's the early trash normal, but I'm pretty sure that's the "squeaker" mouse they've already revealed? Does this evolve from squeaker, maybe? Ah, well, no sense worrying about it for now. Onward, to poké balls! Hopefully!

Two steps later, this happens. That's convenient. Definitely not an evolution of squeaker, and definitely also waaaay too cute to be appearing before I have poké balls. Let us punish it for its insolence by taking our new ember attack for a spin and finding out whether this thing's as flammable as that "bamb-" in its name implies.

Yep, that looks pretty darn flammable. That'll teach adorable things to approach me.

I appear to have found the Tutorial Tour Guy, so it looks like Route 1 is just about done. Well, not completely done; I see an area in the top right where I haven't been yet, and I'm pretty sure there's an item ball up there somewheres. Apparently he's here... advertising the addition of poké balls to the mart's stock! !!!! Yes! Take me there now, Tutorial Tour Guy! Screw the other path, I need me some poké balls!

Ethereal Gates Demo 1.0 Screenshot

...or don't actually be the Tutorial Tour Guy and don't take me anywhere, but just hand me a free sample instead! That works, too. You're mine, now, Cat Food and Flammable Mouse. >D

...and then Aenjara burns the first cat food we find and it faints. Poop. On the plus side, level 8! Now, let's try that again, shall we?

But first, berry trees! And also that item ball I saw, which was a potion. There's another item ball on the other side of those trees, but it's on a tiny ledge surrounded by water and it probably requires surf. I doubt that surf is accessible in the demo, so I guess the item ball's contents shall remain a mystery for now.

That's not cat food or a flammable mouse, but rather the equally-flammable early bug verdva. Eh, it'll do.

SECOND TINY MAGICAL MONSTER FRIEND.

Whoops, looks like there's some dex info missing here.

Kilasdann! (Dwarf bug-type and one of those people who sells possibly dodgy medicine I mentioned on Tumblr forever ago. Don't ask me how mammals can be bug-types, I haven't figured it out yet.) Just knows tackle and string shot for now, and I imagine that it'll be a minute before even harden gets added to that repertoire, but we'll see how she works out, eh?

There's my cat food. Size and species name are broken again, whoops.

Ragno is not a Tolkien ripoff that is also somehow a bug but rather a talking honchkrow. Seems a bit of a mismatch for such a bright and sunny normal/flying fuzzball, but Ragno is a sneaky, conniving sonuvagun and this sneaky, conniving sonuvagun crit me down to 1 HP before he went in the ball (and likes to crit things I'm trying to catch, apparently), so close enough. Also I don't have any flying-type people yet, largely because idefk how that's supposed to work, either.

I was trying to stick around long enough to catch a bambouse, but my team was kinda beat up and I refuse to use healing items when I know there's a pokémon center like five feet away from me, so I guess I'll just head into Corella Town next!
