Aha, there's the Tutorial Tour Guy. *whistles the tutorial tour jingle*

I take my first steps into Corella Town, and just past those alarmingly pink trees I find this gent, who walks up and brings with him that "follow a person around" jingle you all know from pretty much every other Pokémon game.

I guess so. I'm just really glad it's my avatar and not the real me going on this tour. If I had to do that much walking through that many flowers the allergic reaction would probably suffocate me. I'm getting a sinus headache just looking at all this, lordy.

The tour finishes after some stuff about ancient willow trees and nature and blah blah blah, also the mart was right down the street from the pokémon center so why did we have to detour through Pollen Land down there you jerk. At least I get this handy piece of paper to blow my nose with. Let's see what Leneka looks like, shall we?

Hm, pretty big! That black bit at the bottom seems to obscure part of it, but you can just about see the tail of the arrow pointing to Corella Town, our current location.

Anyway! A little healing up at the pokémon center, some free antidotes in preparation for the forest up ahead from the Guide Gent's brother, a quick pop back onto Route 1 to level up a bit and find that bambouse...

(Gonna get the dex screens from the pokédex itself because the info shows up correctly there.)

Not sure if screenshot at this exact moment makes him look cuter or more terrified. Tierog is another elf, a grass-type, and also the king (or something, not sure what I'm doing with the government anymore) of that Ara Falhezi place on the map I posted back in June. He is also the first of our four namesakes who isn't evil or otherwise entirely untrustworthy. So far, anyway. He is a politician of some sort. I think he does hit the sauce a lot, though. This bambouse could probably use some sauce. Seriously, screenshot, what did you do, he looks like he's about to cry.

I haven't seen any other wilds on Route 1, so I headed back into town and bought some more poké balls in preparation for the forest I hear tell is up ahead. (They threw in a free premier ball, too; the last few games I've tried left that out. :( ) Also, what's this?

A "changing room"? Hm...

Well, that's closed, so let's talk to Password Pete. Howdy, Password Pete! Password Pete has a ton of gifts with him, but he can only give them to me if I have the secret password. Do I have the secret password?

Ethereal Gates Demo 1.0 Screenshot

Might the secret password, perchance, be... this?

Ethereal Gates Demo 1.0 Screenshot

Hell yeah.

Barilbil! These are normally only catchable at a point beyond where the demo is due to stop, so they're handing 'em out as mystery gifts via that password. (I think the cut-off portion of the dex entry is supposed to say "...own back" or something like that.) I'd like to take a moment to thank the team for letting this mystery gift have my OT and ID, by the way. I tend to avoid using pokémon I can't nickname, but since she's properly mine...

Durvas's namesake is an orc. Durvas is also not evil, but she's loud and short-tempered and punches things a lot. Close enough to a powerful but inaccurate cranky goat, I think.

(Update: As of demo version 1.1, this password system has been removed. They've since switched to a more traditional Mystery Gift system, so any new gifts are to be downloaded that way. The few known passwords do still work if you have a copy of 1.0, though, so you could always grab a free barilbil and then update your save file afterward...)

This lady's mother is getting old and needs constant care, so I guess she can't leave the house to deliver things. I guess I'll just take this mysterious package and give it to her boyfriend. Hopefully there's a cash reward. I still haven't had the chance to beat TV money out of anyone but August yet. There's not much else of interest here, so it's time to pack up our package and our party full of pokémon and go see that forest!
