Or maybe there's a route before the forest, whatever. Also, be aware that there's a butt in this post. Don't look. (You should totally look, it's the best thing.)

It appears we have some Route 2 to cover before we hit the woods proper. Let's see what's waiting for us! Is it money?

YES

FLAMMABLE MOUSE FIGHT. GO, TIEROG. WIN ME THE TV MONEY

(Too bad they don't seem to have the regular trainer fight music up on SoundCloud; imo it's the best of the three battle themes so far.)

NEVER MIND, THE OTHER FLAMMABLE MOUSE HITS TOO HARD, DURVAS WILL WIN ME THE TV MONEY INSTEAD

Yeah, yeah. Pay up, loser. (Hm, this sprite's not quite on par with some of the others... he needs a bit more neck.)

Where there's one trainer there must be more, so let's go hunt down some more of that money!

Or a bee. A bee is good. Especially if it's such a fluffy bee, with its face looking all over the place like it doesn't know where to focus its adorable attention first. Polbee, I didn't know you even existed until five seconds ago but now I need you like I need that flatscreen TV.

("clumps" of pollen) Hm, the dex entries that appear on capture don't have the species and size, but they also let you see the entire piece of flavor text. Not sure which is better to screencap now.

Ilario's namesake is a human. He doesn't really do much right now other than help his mom and be adorable, which fits this precious baby like a T. Or a B.

Party of six! Dunno how many of them will stay, of course, but it's nice to have a full house for now. I guess I'd like to see how some of them evolve before making a decision, although that'll be tough because I'll also want to see how the other things I can't carry with me will evolve. Except maybe Ilario. I don't know if I can evolve Ilario. No matter how badass polbee's evolution might be, I don't think it can top that face. In fact...

Ethereal Gates Demo 1.0 Screenshot

One quick battle just so I can see what he looks like from behind (oh my god look at his smooth little naked butt), and then I think Ilario's gonna have to be the first to hit the box. I've already got another bug-type and another flying-type, I suspect that seeing him evolve and cease to be this precious bare-bottomed fuzzy fatbee will crush me emotionally, and also he broke out of a poké ball when I was trying to catch him and that's a cardinal sin where I come from. He's adorable, but he wasted my money and therefore he must go. (Hopefully we'll be able to see polbee's evolution(s) elsewhere in the demo.)

So anyway, that's polbee from behind, so I'll just switch and continue this battle with... with... this. This? What on God's green earth is this?

I don't know what Aenjara will do. I'm not really sure how to respond to purple chihuahua-terriers with thick necks and staring, soulless eyes. Christ, even its name is creeping me out. Is it something to do with ears? Is that... is that the sound it makes or something? I can't not imagine it making this low, creaky "eeeeeearrrrrrr" sound. I do not like the sound I am imagining. Uh? Uh. Scratch it, I guess?

Ethereal Gates Demo 1.0 Screenshot

Okay, so it is something to do with ears. It's still creepy, and now I've heard its cry better it is definitely sort of creaky-croaky at the end. Chihuahua-terriers should not make that sound. Possibly an interesting concept, possibly lots of fun to use, possibly evolves into something less unsettling, but since I've also already got three normal-types I think it's one I'll have to explore in another playthrough, possibly when I'm feeling less chicken.

(I named it Enzial. Enzial is just an elf, not a soulless chihuahua-terrier whose croaking cries will haunt my dreams for the next few nights, but big ears, I guess. Also he is not a team player and hates everyone, which is a perfect excuse not to bring him along.)

The "move" option is first in the list! Yay!

Ethereal Gates Demo 1.0 Screenshot

Wait, "acts a fool"? That's not a canon characteristic... did they add more/change some of them? I guess changing a few would make sense. Some of them are kind of samey.

I like the new box interface. The boxes don't seem to have wallpapers (and if you go to the "wallpaper" interface and choose one from the list of HGSS wallpapers, nothing actually changes), but they do change color as you page through them.

Anyway, into the box my darling baby bare-butt bee goes. Bye, Ilario! Enzial will keep you company. I'm sure you two will get along juuust fine.

Back to Route 2 for more trainers and possibly more pokémon next! (Not sure how many more wilds there are, though; I've already seen bambouse and avinch in addition to these two.)
